I just wanted to remind you that there is still time to sign up for these summer programs. There is also a save the date for an upcoming program in October.
I know that you are deep into the summer reading preparations and may have even started your programs. If you have a day, come and join us.
Books, Hooks, and Reeling Them In: Books for Reluctant Teen Readers 9:00 AM-3PM
Tuesday June 17 Coal Valley Service Center
Tuesday June 24 Shorewood Service Center
Wednesday June 25 Rockford Service Center
Both public and school librarians find it frustrating that there are teens that hate reading and don't think the library has any GOOD books for them. Join Lynn Evarts for a day of showing teens that there is something for them in books more engaging than a computer game or late night reruns.
Lynn will discuss tried-and-true young adult choices, as well as new books of note, popular trends in publishing for teens and ways to encourage even the most reluctant readers to give reading a try. Who says teenagers don't like reading? Lynn believes that every young person can be turned on to reading with just the right match. Come prepared for a day of sharing, laughing and BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!
Lynn also does seminars with BER (Bureau of Educational Resources). Those usually cost $175-$195 without lunch and we are charging only $10 because of an LSTA grant.
"Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)."

Tuesday July 15 Coal Valley Service Center
Tuesday July 22 Shorewood Service Center
Brian Shea from DEMCO, Inc. presents a practical, hands-on seminar where participants learn and practice basic repairs for both hard and soft bound books. Emphasis is placed on becoming familiar with techniques and materials for economical in-house repair of materials that must be available for frequent use. Additionally, protective measures which will extend the life of new materials will be demonstrated and discussed. Long term preservation of archival materials is not addressed. This workshop is useful for anyone involved in repair of library materials and participants will gain skills that can be shared with other staff or volunteers.
Please bring 2 DISCARDED hardcover books to the workshop and a pair of scissors. The workshop fee is $10. Minimum registration for this workshop is 15 people.
