New Illinois Statewide Delivery to Commence January 2, 2008
The Intrasystem Library Delivery Service (ILDS) has operated in Illinois
for more than 25 years. Not to be confused with PALS delivery, this is
the delivery system that connects the Illinois library systems in
Illinois and a number of academic and research libraries. The statewide
delivery service is getting a slightly new name and will be expanded
starting January 2, 2008. The new name is Illinois Library Delivery
Service (still ILDS - possibly what you already thought ILDS stood
for!). The other big difference is that all Illinois academic libraries
that are governing or associate members of the Consortium of Academic
and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) will now be direct stops on
ILDS. The number of direct stops for ILDS is growing from 42 to 139
locations. There is lots more information on the new ILDS on a new
website: http://www.illinoisdelivers.net.
PALS member libraries/CARLI members that are also new ILDS locations
will be receiving training beginning next week from CARLI staff on
proper shipping procedures. Your library should have received an email
requesting that you register for training.
For non-CARLI libraries, the main change is getting used to a new ILDS
label and new ILDS codes. There are now a number of training materials
on the PALS website at:
http://www.palsnet.info/services/delivery/default.asp
<http://www.palsnet.info/services/delivery/default.asp> . We would ask
that all staff at non-ILDS libraries that processes interlibrary loans
or returns materials review this information and ask questions. All
libraries should begin using the new ILDS label as of January 2, 2008
for shipping materials via ILDS.
Please remember that ILDS is a separate delivery system from PALS
delivery. PALS delivery routes will continue as usual, except that we
will no longer be delivering to those Illinois academic libraries
indicated in the training materials that will now be receiving their
materials daily via ILDS.
If you have questions, please ask me, or your delivery hub supervisor:

Judy
